We’re delighted to announce that Mohammed Khalil, founder of Giving Analytics, will be speaking alongside Maroof Pirzada, UK Director at Muslim Charity, at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s Insight in Fundraising Conference on 21 September 2026 at the Leonardo Royal London, St Paul’s.

This year’s conference, Turning Headwinds into Tailwinds: Transforming Challenge into Impact, also marks 20 years of the Insight in Fundraising special interest group, and we’re proud to be part of the anniversary programme.

About the conference

Charities are operating in an increasingly complex environment. Financial pressure on donors, tighter budgets, changing supporter expectations and growing demands for evidence and efficiency mean organisations are being asked to do more with less than ever before. The conference explores how charities are responding to those headwinds and turning them into tomorrow’s tailwinds.

Built by practitioners, for practitioners, the day brings together fundraisers, marketers, digital specialists, analysts and insight professionals across three streams: Main Stage, Tech & Tools and Lean & Impactful, which focuses on practical approaches for smaller teams and tighter budgets. Our session sits in the Tech & Tools stream.

Giving insights to… the donors!

Insight teams spend their lives extracting intelligence from donor data, and almost all of it is consumed internally. Our session is about what happened when we turned the tables and handed the insight back to the donors themselves.

During Ramadan, Muslim donors concentrate up to 90% of their annual giving into 30 days, and inboxes flood with near-identical appeals. Muslim Charity, with around £7.5m income, 25 staff, no data team and a legacy CRM, needed to stand out from the crowd. So it used data to show each donor their own story.

For Ramadan 2026, starting from nothing more than a single CSV export, every one of 40,000 donors received their own dedicated website: a visualisation of their giving journey, a map of their community’s collective impact, an impact story tied to the causes they’d supported most and a personalised audio message greeting them by name in the AI-cloned voice of a real colleague matched to their profile. Scottish donors heard a Scottish colleague, and women heard a female voice.

Behind it sat a personalisation engine deriving around 20 signals per donor. It always surfaced each donor’s most positive facts, so every supporter had something genuine to feel proud of. A large language model wrote the copy, but only around pre-verified numbers, and privacy thresholds ensured comparisons never exposed an individual.

The result was a 75% higher average donation per email open than standard emails, the highest of any email sent that period, plus unprompted thank-you replies and donors phoning the charity simply to reconnect.

What we’ll cover

  • How the personalised websites and AI voice messages were built, starting from a single CSV export from a legacy CRM
  • The challenges: factual accuracy at scale, tackling robotic audio, Arabic-English greetings, voice-cloning ethics and a small charity’s budget
  • What is replicable for other charities, whatever their size or data maturity
